Durga, a domestic worker in Kolkata, became the sole breadwinner of her family when her husband lost his job after the factory where he worked shut down. Overnight, the responsibility of supporting a family of four fell entirely on her shoulders.
Despite working long hours in multiple households, her earnings were barely enough to meet the family’s basic needs. Providing food, paying rent, and managing day-to-day expenses became a constant struggle, leaving the family vulnerable and uncertain about the future.
Recognizing their difficult circumstances, SuRaksha Parhit Foundation stepped in to support the family. We provide a regular monthly contribution that helps cover their ration expenses and the rent of their jhuggi, easing some of the financial burden and bringing much-needed stability to their lives.
Durga’s story is one of determination and resilience. In the face of adversity, she continues to work hard to keep her family together and provide for her loved ones. Through timely support, we hope to ensure that temporary hardship does not push the family deeper into poverty and that they can look forward to a more secure future.
